- As much as alternative medicine is very good these days, I would be very hesitant when someone says that I should stop my medication for my diabetes. This is VERY dangerous and I would NOT listen to them. You need to speak to your Local Dr. about this and get his opinion. Maybe the reflexology could be used in conjunction with your current medication but please do not STOP it. Diabetes, whether type 1 or type 2 is a serious disease and warrants that you take regular medication to help balance your sugar levels. Good luck and Please talk to your local Dr. before looking into alternative medicines.
- Reflexology will NOT cure your diabetes, the only way to help treat diabetes is insulin injections or tablets. Stopping your medication will jusr raise your sugar levels and could even give you further health problems like glaucoma or kidney damage. If you really want to risk your health & use reflexology until you end up in hospital then you need to tell your g.p what you are doing so he can keep a watch on your kidney function and rush you to hospital when it is needed. I've been a diabetic for 22 years now & medication and diet are the best way to deal with this not pressing a bit of your foot and hoping for the best. If reflexology worked the government would pay for it as it would be cheaper than medication. Think about it
- Diabetes is a chronic disease; therefore, it is incurable. It is, however, very possible to live a healthier lifestyle to reduce the symptoms of diabetes. Anyone who says she can "cure" diabetes is a liar. I would talk to your doctor. If you exercise and eat right, you can stop taking your meds if your sugar remains the same and at a normal level. However, you MUST get the OK from doc to do so. The normal range for sugar level is 70-110. As you know, too low and you are hypoglycemic and too high will result in hyperglycemia. Both are very scary.
- Please research reflexology! Find out why you can't start reflexolgy while taking your medication and taper it off if the teatment works? I know doctors aren't usually open to unconventional medicines, but get your Doctor's opinion anyway. Find out the worst case scenario in what time frame if you do stop taking your meds. Get as much info as possible. An informed decision is usually the best decision. I went through Kidney failure and dialysis. During that time, I met many diabetic patients and saw some of the complications of diabetes. Whether the diabetes had destroyed their kidneys, taken a limb, or both, majority of those patients suffered from these ailments from non-compliance. They expressed regret at not watching their diets and taking their meds like they should have. I'm not trying to scare you, but diabetes is a very managable disease if you do what is necessary to keep yourself healthy. I do encourage you to seek out better treatments and even possible cures. It just sounds scary when someone tells you to stop taking your med. Make sure you keep yourself safe when considering these things. Good luck!
- Sounds backwards to me. Here's what I recommend. Get the book I mention below. What you'll learn from it is in order to get off medication, you have to be at your 'ideal' weight. If you are overweight, no treatment in the world is going to get you off medication. Second, you have to learn a whole new way of eating. Finally, you need to exercise regularly. Without those three things, it will be impossible to get off medication. Now, as for a cure, we have to define the word. Type 2 diabetes can be EFFECTIVELY cured, but ONLY by diligently following those three recommendations. In other words, you can't be fully cured to where you can eat all you want, what you want, and sit around and watch TV all the time. It's a lifestyle change. In fact, it's a highly desirable lifestyle change. I feel great, look trim, and manage my sugar quite easily following these recommendations. Here's all you'll need to "cure" your diabetes: For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems... I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured. Read more about it here: http://www.diabetesimprovement.com/ The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. - If you are a diabetic better take your medication to avoid complications such as heart disease, renal problems ( chronic renal failure in severe cases, needing dialysis), cataracts! The other consequences of diabetes are neuropathies. You should base your belief not on hearsay but on evidence based medicine. There are some patients who stopped their medication and took herbal medicines, these are not evidence based medicine. Meaning, studies have to be done in thousands of people in different places before it is considered to be effective. Do you want to stop your medications now and see some problems later?
- NOPE NEVER STOP DIABETES MEDICATIONS !! WITHOUT CHECKING WITH YOUR MEDICAL DOCTOR THAT TREATS YOUR DIABETES!!
- Forget the idea of stopping medicaion in exchange for other form of treatment. I learned my lesson. Take it from me and from the others who will tell you that it's a bad idea. Take a pass on this one and instead change your lifestyle, see your doctor on a regular basis and enjoy living. The more you worry about it the more it will eat you up. I know you're in a much better situation than I am but I no longer worry about it. Clean living is already a part of my life and must admit that it took me a long time to make the switch.
- Run away quickly, she's a quack.
- Hi This is a great website for diabetics. You can post your Question there too http://www.diabetesforums.com/
- all i can say is please don't quit taking your insulin! i don't think reflexology will do anything to cure your diabetes. there is really no cure for it Ive had it since i was 10 and am 43 now all you need to do is eat right g=& get plenty af exercise & see your dr. this is the best things you can do! and admit to yourself you have it.
- You should keep taking your medication UNLESS you are advised by your doctor or Diabetes Educator. I am currently on Metformin, which is for Type 2 Diabetes. It is about the size of an Aspirin.
