Is it healthy to get reflexology for more than 30 minutes a session?
I talked to a friend who is a massage therapist and she said that it would be harmful to get a reflexology longer than 30 minutes.I see some places that advertise the services for 30 minutes to an hour. I was wondering if it is safe to get an hour of reflexology once a week? I know this seems unfair, but for the ones that say that it is a scam I would like for you provide a personal experience or link backs up your statement.

- Did you ask your therapist friend why it could be harmful? Because that is a good question, given the alleged mechanism for reflexology is baloney and has no basis in reality. No, you can't have too much of a foot massage, unless of course it is an overpriced scam that is emptying your wallet. EDIT: I call it a scam because there is no evidence for zones/pathways/reflexes (whatever) in the feet, hands or ears. These have never been seen by any doctor, anatomist, radiographer, surgeon, etc etc. There is no evidence for the existence of qi or "vital energy" that needs balancing. There is no good evidence that reflexology can beat placebo under clinical trial. So we have lots of claims but nothing to back them up. I don't think that the majority of reflexologists are necessarily scam artists, deluded maybe, but certainly those who sell the reflexology courses must know what they are doing is nonsense, and when you clearly see pseudoscience used to promote a product, its a scam. "Available scientific evidence does not support claims that reflexology cures cancer or any other disease." http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_5_3X_Reflexology.asp?sitearea=ETO http://www.skepdic.com/reflex.html PS: Personal experiences don't cut it, as they are anecdotes only. There are way too many variables that can't be controlled for, to form any evidence based on anecdotes - placebo, regression to the mean, false memories, etc etc.
- Reflexology is an awesome answer to all sorts of aches and pains. It is extremely beneficial to people who have internal problems. An hour would not be offered if it were harmful. A weekly reflexology session is actually a very relaxing, as well as beneficial, way to feel better.
- Reflexology is a scam that cannot possibly work. Maybe because your friend feels in competition with reflexologists? No idea but the only thing that will be harmed is your bank account.
- It simply depends on how it is done. being a reflexologist myself; Most people who do the foot massage will work on two feet at a time. I work one foot at a time. Simply for I want to know about the balance in someone's body, which can give me lots of information. This means I am working longer then the ones who work two feet at a time. You probably know this type of massage is based up on the principle of zones in the body. When a zone is more out of balance, it needs more work done to it. When there are several zones out of balance this means again the work need to take more time. I can't tell you how long the massage wil take for that depends on the person who is getting the massage and the reactions given.
