Looking for a professional reflexology website for research and reference - specifically related to the spine?
I'm a professional massage therapist looking for a website to reference for specific reflexology pts relating to the spine... I am away from my office and cannot get to my books or charts and need to brush up on my knowledge of the modality for use with my father who just suffered a serious injury to the cervical spine. Please help! Obviously I cannot do any manual manipulation of the area in this acute stage... but reflexology could be appropriate.

- Do you mean foot reflexology? Try searching for Laura Norman. She wrote a book called feet first. I believe she is located in New York City.
- I am also an LMT. I am a reflexologist as well. I just pulled a book off my shelf "Foot Massage for Total Health" by Inge Dougans. Quote "The reflex zones run along the inner side of both feet--half the spine represented on each foot. The cervical vertebrae reflex runs from the base of the big toe nail to the base of the toe...." I am assuming you know the reflexology movement, which is a little different from massage--use the outside of the thumb, on the top joint and 'walk' the thumb over the area. Your thumb does not come off the foot, rather you bend the joint, pulling forward in small increments. Pressure should be as firm as possible without hurting the patient. As in massage, you can do just that cervical spine area but it is recommended you do both feet in entirety. And..... oh, yes--have the patient drink plenty of water to wash away the toxins. (I just get a kick out of that, I say it so often!) You can Google for websites to see illustrations of what I'm saying, but if you understood me that's all you need. Good luck and I hope your father gets better soon. P.S. Try some energy work as well. You can do that off the body so you don't have to touch the cervical area.
